As I briefly talk about in my last post, there are three critical steps that you need to learn to start making money online. The first one is learning how to generate web traffic. The second one would be having a good website (content, design and structure) and the third one would be SEO (optimizing your site, link building, advertising, article writing etc…) These are the key factors in having an online presence and becoming successful.
Let’s get into some of the details about these strategies. Traffic generation can be easy or difficult depends how you approach it. There are several ways of generating traffic. Pay-per-click with Google, msn and yahoo is well know (but costly), posting ads on classified sections on free ad sites like crag’s list and similar sites. Writing articles for sites like ezinearticles.com, articlecircle.com, articlesbase.com etc… Posting/answering questions on forums related to your niche (the product/business you’re promoting) these are some of the well know ways of generating traffic to your site. You’ll have to figure out which one works best for you. That way you’ll decide how much time you would want to put into it or you may decide to out source it.
The second step on how to make it online is by having a good website…what do I mean by having a good website? Well…a good website requires you to have a well laid out structure, design, good content and a not too competitive topic. Let me elaborate a little on the “not too competitive topic” first. If you’re new to the whole working online/home business thing…you’ll need to understand the type of market you’ll be getting into before choosing your niche. I’m sure if you choose to promote a product like a home business course or a work at home product, it would be very competitive provided there are over several million sites promoting similar products. So you’ll need to find your self a niche that has lower competition and there are a bunch of tools that will help you find niches that are not too competitive.
The third step on how to make it online is by learning about SEO (search engine optimization) SEO is making sure all of your meta tags on your web pages are setup correctly with the proper description and keywords, getting links with the correct anchor text on other websites related to you niche. Generating a lot of back links from sites that has high Page Rank, (these are all terms you’ll have to learn as you move forward in your online ventures), submitting your sites to web directories like dmoz.org and others. There are many more factors that are involved in SEO, but these are the major ones to get you started.
In conclusion on how to make it online, whether you own an online business or you’re promoting a company or a companies product, you’ll need to learn these three main aspect of building a presence online. It takes time to learn these skill sets. It can be very frustrating at times especially when you’re not seeing any results after putting in a lot of time and effort. But my advice to you would be…being patient is the key to becoming successful. Just focus on providing quality content for your audience and eventually you’ll see the fruits of your labor.
